With the annual pension adjustment, pensioners' salaries will increase by 4.57 per cent on 1 July this year.
Although old-age pensioners do not receive benefits under the Second Book of the German Social Code (SGB II), the pension may be counted as income for members of a joint benefit community. The annual pension adjustment also increases the survivors', reduced earning capacity and accident pensions of recipients of the citizen's allowance. Accordingly, the increase in the pension benefit may lead to a change in the community of need's entitlement to citizen's allowance.
Benefit notices for affected SGB II recipients will initially be issued provisionally with regard to the pension to be taken into account. The corresponding increase will be added to the current pension as a lump sum from July 2024.
In addition to the annual pension adjustment, the German Bundestag had already passed the Disability Pension Improvement Payment Act (Erwerbsminderungs-Bestandsverbesserungs-Auszahlungsgesetz) on 25 April 2024. According to Deutsche Rentenversicherung, around three million pensioners with reduced earning capacity across Germany will receive a financial supplement from July 2024.
In order to compare and, if necessary, correct the pension income in the benefit calculation, all pension notices - both old-age pension and reduced earning capacity pension - must be submitted to the Salzlandkreis Job Centre by post or e-mail immediately after receipt by the beneficiaries concerned. If no notification has yet been received, proof of receipt of payment is sufficient. In this respect, there is a legal obligation to co-operate on the part of the recipient of the citizen's allowance.
