From 1 July 2024, tenants will be free to choose the type of television reception they want. Due to the Telecommunications Modernisation Act, which came into force on 1 December 2021, landlords are no longer allowed to pass on the fees for cable television to the flats or their tenants as part of the operating costs.
This has a direct impact on the costs of accommodation and heating to be granted for recipients of citizen's allowance. While the costs for the cable connection were previously part of the operating costs and therefore part of the rental agreement, from 1 July 2024 they will no longer be covered by the requirements for accommodation and heating. The costs for the cable connection are also no longer apportionable for flat owners.
In future, recipients of the Citizen's Income will have to finance the cable fees themselves from their standard needs.
If this has resulted in changes to contracts, these must be reported to the Job Centre.
