Since 2022, the Salzlandkreis Job Centre has been offering the option of dual studies in collaboration with Fulda University of Applied Sciences. Lena Klötzer and Elionora Shtiliyanova will start as Bachelor of Arts - Social Work students at the local authority on 1 October this year. The Salzlandkreis job centre, with its locations in Aschersleben, Bernburg, Schönebeck and Stassfurt, will act as the employer where the newcomers will complete the practical part of the four-year course.
The theoretical content of the programme, which is mainly taught in online modules and once a month in face-to-face modules at Fulda University of Applied Sciences, includes methods of social work, project planning, evaluation, prevention and health promotion. As part of the practical training at the job centre, students learn how to meet and support people seeking advice on an equal footing. They gain an insight into the tasks, internal processes and networking of the labour market service provider.
During the degree programme, the working week is 20 hours. In addition to paying a monthly salary of just under €1,039, the employer will cover travel expenses in connection with the on-campus modules at Fulda University of Applied Sciences as well as the costs for additional support expenses of €300 per academic year.
After completing their studies, graduates will primarily find their first job in the Salzlandkreis job centre's integration counselling service. The aim here is to advise people who have been unemployed for several years and to reintegrate them into the labour market with tailored support concepts.
With around 370 employees, the Salzlandkreis job centre pursues a sustainable HR strategy with long-term prospects for young people. "For us, the dual study programme offers a good opportunity to train our own specialists and managers," explains Thomas Holz, Operations Manager at the authority.
The Salzlandkreis Job Centre has already advertised new positions for the dual Bachelor of Arts in Social Work programme, which will start in October 2025. The application period runs until 31 December 2024. Further information is available at https://jc.salzlandkreis.de/über-uns/stellenausschreibungen/duales-studium/.
