In the past, the Salzlandkreis Job Centre also used Postbank cheques in some cases to pay out the citizen's allowance. Due to technical changes on the part of Postbank, cash cheques can no longer be cashed there from 1 January 2026. For this reason, from December 2025, the job centre will only reimburse cash benefits by bank transfer to a bank account of the benefit recipient.
In order for the Citizen's Income to be paid out, it will therefore be mandatory in future to provide a valid bank account. Anyone who does not yet have a current account and receives benefits from the job centre should open an account at a bank or savings bank as soon as possible.
It is recommended that those affected set up a basic account. People without a permanent residence, asylum seekers or tolerated persons are also entitled to a so-called basic account. This account allows you to deposit and withdraw money as well as make direct debits and transfers. Further information on the basic account can be found on the website of the consumer advice centre.
