Bernburg. They no longer just clean chimneys. Chimney sweeps are now recognised experts in fire safety, energy efficiency and environmental protection. As a result, they not only inspect the fireplaces in homes, but also advise on modern heating systems and the modernisation of existing ones. The role of the chimney sweep has changed rapidly in recent years. But one thing has remained the same: their reputation as bringers of good luck.
A few days ago, District Administrator Markus Bauer wished the chimney sweeps from the Salzland district around District Master Nico Nauendorf good health, satisfaction and happiness at the New Year's reception he hosted in his consulting room in Bernburg. The meeting has become a tradition, as the district administration and chimney sweeps work together on the basis of the Chimney Sweep Crafts Act. The chimney sweeps monitor the obligation to sweep, and the district administration initiates any necessary disciplinary measures in the event of violations. 20 companies belong to the district group of chimney sweeps, which regularly co-operate with the specialist services for order and road traffic, building regulations and nature and the environment.
"Regular dialogue is important to me, because we want to hear what the biggest challenges are at the moment and where we as the administration can perhaps provide support," said District Administrator Markus Bauer. He thanked them for their excellent cooperation at all times. "We also think that sharing experiences is very important so that we can pursue a common direction and achieve the goal together," said Nico Nauendorf. "Because the chimney sweeps care about the safety of the people in the Salzland district."
The discussion in a relaxed atmosphere covered topics such as digitalisation, the Building Energy Act, municipal heat planning, the right choice of heating system for new builds or replacements and the obligation to retrofit old stoves. According to the chimney sweeps, the need for information and advice is immense. This is why the demands on the profession are increasing from year to year. In order to be able to reliably fulfil all tasks in the future, it is important to have new recruits.
