Apply for funding for flood protection measures

The Saxony-Anhalt Flood Protection Strategy up to 2020 serves as the basis for the coordinated implementation of an effective package of measures for sustainable, preventive flood protection.

It includes, amongst other things, measures for the renovation of dykes in accordance with DIN standards, sets out provisions regarding flood polders, flood retention basins and dyke relocations, sets out objectives for the preparation of floodplain maps and for increasing the retention capacity across the area, and specifies the necessary measures to improve flood forecasting and warning systems. This is underpinned by plans for the respective river basins.
The State
Administrative Office grants authorisations for dyke construction works. The creation, removal or substantial alteration of a watercourse or its banks (watercourse development) requires planning approval. Dyke and embankment structures that affect flood discharge are treated in the same way as watercourse development.
