If you want to detect an outbreak of avian influenza at an early stage, you can keep your ducks and geese together with chickens and turkeys.
In chickens or turkeys, a potential infection develops more quickly than in ducks or geese, which is why you can spot a potential outbreak of avian influenza quickly.
You must report any instances of animals living together to the relevant authority immediately.
You will need confirmation from the relevant authority if you wish to exhibit your ducks and geese at a poultry show or poultry market. In that case, a prior test for avian influenza is not required.

Prerequisites
- The animals in question are geese, ducks, chickens or turkeys.
- They have been keeping the animals together for at least 7 days prior to the event.
- The event is a poultry market or a poultry show.
- You keep the correct number of chickens or turkeys alongside your geese and ducks.
