Apply for an exemption from the requirement to wear a seatbelt and a helmet
Service description
In certain motor vehicles, such as cars, lorries, coaches or agricultural and forestry tractors, you must wear a seatbelt whilst driving. If you ride a motorcycle, you must wear a helmet. Motorcycles include motorbikes, scooters, mopeds and light motorcycles. This also applies to open three- or multi-wheeled motor vehicles capable of travelling at speeds exceeding 20 kilometres per hour.
Under certain circumstances, you may be exempt from the requirement to wear a seatbelt or a helmet.
An exemption from the seatbelt requirement is generally possible if you
- are unable to wear a seatbelt for health reasons, or
- are shorter than 150 cm.
An exemption from the requirement to wear a helmet is generally possible if, for health reasons, you are unable to wear a protective helmet when riding a motorcycle.
