Pre-school medical examination
Service description
Before your child is allowed to start school, they must undergo a pre-school medical examination. This involves tests of language skills, motor skills (movement) and knowledge to assess your child’s stage of development.
In addition, a hearing and vision test will be carried out, and your child’s blood pressure, height and weight will be measured and recorded.
Your child’s vaccination status is recorded in their vaccination card.
If developmental delays are identified during the pre-school medical examination, or if these are known in advance, your child will be referred to a doctor in the specialist health service for a further assessment.
Procedure
- The pre-school medical examination takes place in the calendar year before the child starts school.
- You will be notified of the date of the examination.
- The school entry medical examination will take place in your presence.
- If necessary, or if the parents wish, a consultation with the doctor will take place.

- Your child must be enrolled in primary school
Which documents are required?
For the examination, you will need:
- Child Health Check Booklet (yellow U-booklet)
- Vaccination card
- Completed parental questionnaire (will be sent to you with the appointment proposal)
- if applicable: spectacles, hearing aids and previous medical records

Processing time
To avoid waiting times, an appointment will be made for the examination. If you are unable to keep the appointment, please let us know in good time. A new appointment will then be arranged.The examination takes about 1 hour.
