A long-held wish has come true

2 July 2026 was a special day for the pupils at the Am Park Special School. After almost four years of dedicated fundraising by the Friends and Supporters’ Association of Am Park School e.V., a high-quality second-hand school bus could finally be purchased. The new bus was warmly welcomed at a small ceremony.

Among the guests at the ceremony were, in particular, those whose generous support had made the project possible. Special thanks go to the Salzlandsparkasse, which, with a contribution of 14,000 euros, was the project’s largest sponsor. The school would also like to extend its heartfelt thanks to Avacon GmbH from Oschersleben, which contributed nearly 4,000 euros towards the purchase of the bus.

The commitment shown by many individuals is also impressive. For example, the mother of a former pupil, Mrs Hintz, worked tirelessly on behalf of the project and helped to secure further donations. The school’s student-run company, ‘Caféclique’, also showed exceptional commitment and donated an impressive 2,000 euros towards the new bus.

The Mayor of Wolmirsleben, Mr Kluczka, was also invited to the event. He attended the ceremony on behalf of the residents of Wolmirsleben and the surrounding area. For many years, he supported the project with great personal commitment and always strove to attract new donors to the cause. It was particularly important to him that the school should be able to purchase a safe and reliable school bus.

Special thanks are also due to Mr Rockmann, a teacher at the vocational school. He worked with exceptional dedication to ensure that a high-quality second-hand bus was found. Working closely with the car dealership, he made sure that the bus met the pupils’ needs. It was particularly important to him that the vehicle was fitted with a wheelchair ramp, thereby enabling all children and young people to travel safely and without barriers.

In addition to the major sponsors, numerous former pupils and staff members from the school also contributed with their donations. This project is a striking example of what can be achieved through collective commitment. The Salzlandkreis has agreed to cover the running costs. Without this commitment, the bus could not be used for school transport, as the Friends’ Association’s funds had been exhausted by the purchase.

The excitement about the new school bus was palpable everywhere on the day it was handed over. The pupils were able to see the vehicle up close, get on board, explore its features and get to know their new bus with great enthusiasm. Their beaming faces made it clear just how delighted everyone was with this new addition.

The pupils and the entire teaching staff at Am Park Special School would like to express their heartfelt thanks to all their supporters, sponsors and donors. Thanks to their help, a long-cherished wish has become a reality.

Successful at the national final in Berlin!

Our school team did it: with great dedication, the para-athletes from the "Am Park" special school in Wolmirsleben fought their way to an impressive 5th place in the overall standings at the national finals of "Youth Training for the Olympics & Paralympics" in Berlin. Devin Wagner (
U17, 1697 points), Sean Sander (U20, 1689 points) and Shania Mergel (U14, 1650 points) were particularly impressive, their performances making them some of the most successful athletes on the team. Many personal bests, exciting competitions at the Mommsenstadion and an unforgettable closing ceremony at the Max-Schmeling-Halle made the days in Berlin a special experience.
In addition to the sporting highlights, our students also discovered the capital: the Brandenburg Gate, the TV tower, the Neptune Fountain, a visit to the theatre, pizza and fun at the Illuseum were all on the programme.
On Friday, the athletes received a warm welcome at our school. Headmistress Ms Krug praised their achievements in front of the entire school community: "We are proud of the achievements of each individual athlete and would like to thank the accompanying teachers for their work."
A big thank you goes to our sponsors and the Salzlandkreis district – without their support, this experience would not have been possible.

We are proud of you – you have represented our school and our region with dignity!

Our team took third place in the state finals of "Jugend trainiert" and received the bronze medal.

At this year's sports festival, the pupils showed what they are made of. They competed with joy and ambition in the various disciplines, such as the long jump and snake run.

Today, the pupils and colleagues of our school performed the "Carnival of the Animals" together. In addition to many guests, Mr Kiel from the Volksstimme newspaper was also present and published the following article afterwards:

At the opening of this year's School Step Challenge, pupils and teachers got moving together and collected their first steps. The challenge runs until 28 May. Our aim is to collect as many steps as possible together.

The school football team came 2nd in the regional finals of "Jugend trainiert". They thus qualified for the state final on 3 June in Haldensleben.

Our school swimming team successfully took part in the state finals of "Jugend trainiert" in Dessau and came 4th.

On the second day of our project week, we were visited by the Mitteldeutsche Kammerphilharmonie. They played excerpts from the suite "Carnival of the Animals" by the composer Camille Saint-Saëns.

Pupils and adults were equally enthusiastic.

This school year also saw the traditional internal "Ball over the String Tournament" take place.

All classes took part with enthusiasm and endeavoured to win one of the coveted challenge cups.

The winners of each class level can now keep it in their classroom for a year.

On 11 November, we hosted the school football team from the "Kastanienschule" school in Aschersleben and the school football team from the "Karl-Friedrich-Wilhelm Wander" special school.

The teams competed against each other in exciting and very fair football matches.

It was a great day!
