Federal parental allowance
Our team is responsible for processing and advising on all aspects of federal parental allowance. We support parents living in the Salzland district with all questions regarding entitlement, application and payment of parental allowance.
The Federal Parental Allowance supports parents after the birth of their child if they reduce their income or interrupt their employment in order to care for their child. The legal basis is the Federal Parental Allowance and Parental Leave Act (BEEG). Parental allowance is also available to parents who had no income before the birth.
Our team will be happy to advise you on the requirements, the necessary documents and how best to organise your parental allowance claim.
- Parental allowance must be applied for in writing.
- The application can only be made after the birth of the child.
- Retroactive payment is only possible for a maximum of three months of life.
Types of parental allowance
- Basic parental allowance
- Parental allowance plus.
- Partnership bonus
Parental Allowance Plus and the partnership bonus provide you with particular support if you share the work and family responsibilities as partners after the birth
Prerequisites
Parents can apply for parental allowance if they:
- look after and bring up their (adopted) child themselves,
- live in a household with their child,
- are not employed for more than 32 hours per week after the birth and
- have a place of residence in Germany or usually stay here.
Performance
As parents, you can decide for yourself which of you will claim parental allowance for which period. In the application, you must specify the months of your child's life for which you would like to apply for parental allowance and which parental allowance variant you choose.
The amount of parental allowance is calculated individually. The calculation is based on the income you had before the birth and which you will receive when you receive parental allowance - but at least 300 euros and at most 1,800 euros per month (basic parental allowance variant).
