Self-help groups
Self-help groups are voluntary associations of people who are similarly affected by illness, mental health issues or social problems.
In community with other affected individuals, health-related self-help groups discuss a wide range of aspects of health, illness and disability.
The aim of the group work is to help people cope with difficult life situations or, in the case of chronic illnesses, to offer support for a meaningful life despite existing burdens and limitations.

Self-help contact centres
Self-help contact points are independent, professional specialist institutions that support people in searching for solutions to their health-related, psychological or social problems independently and collectively, and in putting these solutions into practice. They work across departments, problems and institutions and offer citizens low-threshold access to self-help groups.
Self-help contact points are networking centres in social and health fields of action and for civic engagement. Self-help contact points support self-help groups in organisational, financial and group dynamic issues by providing rooms, helping to set up a group, referring interested parties, mediating in group conflicts, putting them in touch with experts, conducting public relations work and representing their interests in committees and working groups.
Self-help contact points support self-help groups, regardless of whether they belong to various umbrella organisations. Regardless of whether their members are insured with a particular health insurance fund or whether cooperation with a particular professional group is sought. Regardless of the problem or topic area involved.There are a total of 14 recognised self-help contact points in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, 12 of which are run by PARITÄTISCHEN and its member organisations.
